Hell's Boundary (Hellsgate Wilderness)

A beautiful canyoneering route in the Hellsgate Wilderness. First descent claimed by Jay W. and Jef F. The route is 15 miles west of Young Arizona on forest roads 129 out of Young to 133 left out to the parking spot at Lower Corral. The jeep roads start getting rough just before trailhead 37. Doable with a high clearance vehicle. The technical section consist of 4 to 6 rappels depending on if you want to down climb and traverse some sketchy areas or rig a rope. The narrows are also amazing as there are many pools and colorful rocks. The last two drops are the larger rappels and the exit is not more then a few hundred feet after the last rap. It will be the first drainage on the left that you come to.

Hike from the vehicle to the north north/west on the right side of a drainage until it connects to the drainage of Hell's Boundary where you will start heading west in the creek bed to the technical section.

Narrows, Rappels, Pools, Down climbs and Swims. R1: 30’ rock chock set back in corner crack. Drops into pool (or get off early and traverse to avoid pool) ~Down-climb into 2 deep swimmers~ R2: 15’ rock pinch into swimmer pool R3: 175’ rock pinch RDC, high on patio above watercourse R4: 135' Juniper, up high RDC, above watercourse

There are about four sections of large rock scree fields that are on the left side of the exit drainage that make for great footing on the ascent. Just be sure to head to the right after the last scree field so you end up at the head of the drainage up top. Take in the views then locate a nice trail as shown on the map. Follow that back to jump in the drainage of Hell's Boundary and back to your vehicle.
