Información
Another short Mesquite Flat canyon in the Superstition Mountains with few downclimbs, shallow narrows and a rappel or two. From Tortilla Flat, drive 1.1 miles to a pullout/camping area on the left.
Cómo llegar
From the parking area, hike north to cross the wash and locate the rough, rocky road that continues on the other side. Very soon after leaving the wash the road splits in a Y, take the right branch to continue on the main road. Follow the road north for about 1.4 miles, then leave the road to the east and route find your way along a ridge for about .7 miles to a spot where it is possible to easily scramble down into the canyon below.
Descenso
Complete a few downclimbs passing some shallow pools. The two rappels will come early and are back-to-back. R1: 40’ off rock pinch. Downclimb to ledge and look over your left shoulder to find the anchor (it may be hidden by brush when looking from above). R2: 25’ off rock pinch into waist-deep pool. Hike down canyon through some light, mostly forgiving brush. Eventually you’ll encounter a couple more downclimbs and avoidable pools, but the lower section of canyon is non-technical.
Retorno
Once out of the canyon, follow either the wash and/or the minor camp roads to the west and back to your vehicle.
