Fire Escape Canyon

This canyon was originally explored and beta'd by Matt Maxon Located in the Devils Punchbowl/South Fork Big Rock Creek areas in the far northern part of the San Gabriel Mtns

Park at the South Fork Campsite. Take the South Fork Trail about a quarter mile south until shortly before the Fire Escape drainage enters. Climb the obvious scree-filled gully to the left (north) of the Fire Escape drainage. When the gully forks, go to the right. Gain the ridge. When the ridge levels off, drop in at the main coordinates listed on the beta.

This canyon is short and sweet with three rappels in quick succession. R1: 25' - tree DCL to shelf R2: 160' - tree DCL, drops down vertical face with a small trickle of water (banner photo) R3: 70' - tree DCL, low-angle down a chute

Walk a quarter mile back along the South Fork trail to the parking area.
