Información

A short canyon on an unnamed creek off of Shoofly Peak, this canyon contains 9 back to back rappels, great views and easy access. Shoofly offers very little in terms of aquatic features due to its almost non-existent drainage. It's suspected that the canyon is spring fed, so water is low but likely consistent. This does mean Shoofly is an option early and late in the season when other drainages are flowing too high. If flow is manageable, Lake Creek is a five minute drive away and could easily be combined with Shoofly to add some more aquatic adventure to a full day.

Cómo llegar

From the upper parking, make your way through the forest to the creek and enter the stream bed at earliest opportunity. If not opting for the shuttle and parking at the end, hike up the steep but mostly open forest hill to the right of the canyon. Once the forest levels out and gets a little more brushy/marshy, make your way over to the stream and find a good place to drop in.

Descenso

R1: 25’ Single bolt DCL. R2: 40’ Single bolt DCL- Use caution, there is a lot of sharp rock on this rappel. Minimize movement side to side and ensure your rappel is smooth. It's a good idea to familiarize yourself with abrasion mitigation techniques such as creeping the rope for rappels like this. R3: 20’ Single bolt DCL. R4: 90’ Single bolt DCL. R5: 20’ Nuisance rappel off single bolt DCL. Please resist the urge to scramble DCL to avoid creating erosion on an already loose slope. R6: 50’ Down low angle ramp, single bolt DCC on DC side of boulder. R7: 80’ Single bolt DCL R8: 40’ Single bolt DCR R9: 60’ Two stage rappel off single bolt DCR. Use caution near the bottom, there is a deceptively nasty foot/leg entrapment at the bottom of the second stage where the water chokes down to a narrow jet. The slot formed here is also filled with wood debris. This can also eat the end of a rope of too much is paid out.

Retorno

If shuttling, the canyon exits directly to your car. If not and you parked at the top, hike uphill to the right of the canyon, finding the easiest way up a steep but mostly open forest walk.
