Información

Wolf Creek at Cumbres Pass near the Colorado/New Mexico border holds two rappels and is a pretty section of the Continental Divide Trail. This may be a good beginner location, except the approach is a bit long.

Cómo llegar

Park at Cumbres Pass, either at the Railroad Station sign or at the CDT trailhead. Hike the CDT 2.75 miles and depart the trail when Upper Wolf Creek falls is seen. Either hike down to the nice alcove below the falls or trend higher to get above the falls.

Descenso

Early season may dramatically increase the volume of the flow. R1: 60' from a tree near the creek. Hike downstream a short distance to the next rappel. R2: 70' from a tree. An exit gully on Canyon Left would allow stopping here, regaining the trail and hiking the approach trail back. Otherwise, continue downstream (this was not scouted for this writeup, however Doug Scott has done so). A link up may be possible to also hike into Cumbres Falls (100') on a tributary to Wolf Creek. Continuing downstream will pass a section of cascades by a big rock outcropping.

Retorno

Depart the creek at the train tracks and follow these to Canyon Right, which could lead to a car shuttle parking below.
