Información
Very short and potentially sweet canyon. The waterfalls are very nice and with some trail work on the approach and a little cleaning inside the canyon it can be a 3-4 star canyon. Getting There: From Sunland go a short distance on Big Tujunga Canyon Road and park on the North side of the road at the trailhead (34.297027, -118.280935). > Please carry your favorite Gardening tools to every canyon (Folding Saw, Pruners, Loppers, Machete). We all need to help with trail and canyon maintenance on every trip.
Cómo llegar
The approach is very short but a bit tough going up the hillside in a crumbly water drainage. Note: Done in early November there was almost no water crossing the Big Tujunga River, however, in other times of the year you may have to cross in different water levels and current.
Descenso
Once you drop in it’s a very short walk to the first down-climb and very short walks between all the next waterfalls to the end. The canyon can be done with 2 down-climbs and 4 rappels or 6 rappels. Waterfall notes: 1. If you’re not comfortable with down-climbing - Rappel! 2. If you’re not comfortable with down-climbing the 8’ - Anchor and rappel from the top 3. Anchor above the 10’ drop, down-climb it and Rappel the 30’ 4. Confident canyoneers/climbers can down-climb. I had the group rappel from me (Human anchor) and then down-climbed. 6. You’ll need the 200’ rope here due to the distance of the anchor and the distance between the two waterfalls. Keep the anchor high so you can pull the rope at the bottom.
Retorno
From the bottom of the last rappel it’s a short walk back to the car, same way you came.
