Blown Away Canyon

The mile-long lava tube cave is the main attraction of this route, shown on the map as "Ruins" and only a 10 minute hike from the bottom of the canyon. The lava cave requires rappelling in ascending out and headlamps are a must. The ceiling is high so you can walk through it. There are several tubes to explore so you could spend 1-2 hours in the cave or more. The canyon itself is an open, dry drainage which collects alot of garbage that blows in from the highway. It features a couple lava rock arches, several dry rappels and great views of the ocean to the Big Island. It is a nice option if other canyons are rained out. Can be combined with Tangled Mess to make a full day.

Drop in from the bridge at the highway.

Walk along the bluff to the right of the canyon exit when you arrive at the beach. You will pass some animal pens made of rock. Continue and head up the dirt road back to your car.
