Charon Canyon

Charon Canyon is a great choice if you're looking to spend your day in a beautiful, fun canyon that does not require the level of effort typical of other canyons in the Black Mountains.

The first section of the approach follows a small drainage up the mountain that eventually leads up to a beautiful knife edge ridge on the way up to the drop in point. The angle of the approach is more gentle than other canyons in the area like Deimos and Coffin. On the ascent hike-up done 2-7-10, we started at minus 280' below sea-level and ascended up to the 3000'+ level, so we gained around 3300' of elevation gain. SO the gain is determined by high high you want to go up. Cutting into the canyon too early, means you may be missing the upper rappels.
