Información

A nice, short Superstitions classic, this route can be anywhere from a mellow class B canyon to a fun class C canyon with recent rain; being extremely cautious not to get into the canyon if it is flash flooding.

Cómo llegar

Heading east toward Tortilla Flat on state route 88 park at an unsigned pullout on the left shortly before the parking for Tortilla Flat at 33.526009, -111.392394. Begin by hiking west on SR 88 for .2 miles to find the beginning of a light use trail at 33.525825, -111.395824 that heads somewhat steeply up the slope to the south. The trail starts on your left just before the road makes a turn to the north west. If followed carefully, you can stay on the trail most of the way to the canyon, but if not there are many ways of getting to the canyon drainage that are not wrong. Basically, you follow the trail up the hill and head south through a shallow drainage, then up the other side, then down again through an upper drainage of Headdress Canyon.

Descenso

R1: 40’ off small arch RDC near the watercourse into pool that requires a short swim to get to the other side. Continue down canyon navigating a few downclimbs and shallow pools to reach rappel #2. R2: 25' from boulder. Optional downclimb RDC, or easy bypass 30 feet LDC. The third rappel is not long after the second and drops you down a nice chute into an alcove. Squeeze through the chockstones at the top of the drop to locate the anchor underneath them. The rope could stick if you rapped from the top. R3: 50' off rock pinch inside the rabbit hole. About 2-3 people can fit in the rabbit hole at once. R4: 25' rappel. A hole in the wall on the right can be used to rig an anchor for this drop if rappelling; and is a good place for a retrievable anchor. Alternatively, downclimb RDC.
