Kings Cave

Not quite a canyon, but a full value route with an approach that makes you earn it. Traverse Boynton Canyons' Deadmans Dome, riding the coconino shelves and red rock slabs to the drop in. Enjoy the surprises along the way, and the quick exit!

Follow the approach KML. Initially, same approach as Deadman’s Descent and Deadman’s Hollow. PG rating is for the class IV crack and exposed ridgeline traverse that follows. Follow the sandstone shelf beyond the aforementioned routes, and continue to work your way from there to R1. This can be done by following the track to an prominent break in the cliff band. Hike down the break to the sandstone slab and locate R1.

R1: 220' off Bolts RDC of watercourse. Watch for hikers below! Hand signals or radios or cell phones recommended. R2: 100' off tree. R3: 30' off tree. R4: 145' LDC Bolts on first ledge. Trail rope until free hang. Watch for hikers below. Use caution and select appropriate rigging as the rope wants to naturally go into a pinch before the free hang.
