Información

This is a very easy beginner or training canyon, best done shortly after a rain when the water is flowing, typically Winter. The last two rappels are easily seen as you drive down the hill from Red Box. The best news is this canyon has NO POISON OAK!

Cómo llegar

Drive up the 2/ACH from the 210 freeway. Park at Red Box picnic area at the intersection of ACH and Mt Wilson road. Hike up the Strawberry peak trail to the start point. The west gully, about 1/10 mile farther should be similar, but has not yet been explored. It joins this route after R4 and has the same final rap.

Descenso

R1 is a 60' rap off an oak tree on the trail into the canyon. The middle section is a fairly easy walk for more than half of the descent, with just one large log obstacle you have to climb over. R2 is a 18' rap off a tree in a shady waterfall R3 is a 25' rap off a tree in a waterfall. Up to this point you could escape up the side of the canyon, which would be difficult and brushy, but possible. R4 commits you to doing R5 unless you have significant climbing skills to go back up the side. R4 is a 80' rap off a tree, with a 50' and 30' drop, the second drop is bypassable. R4 puts you at the base of a double waterfall, the second one is coming down from the gully just to the west of the one you came down, looks like a 70-80' drop with the second 30 footer below (bypassable as described above). R5 is a 30' rap off a big log set back 15'-20' behind the ledge in full view of the road.
