Información

Schvaterfall Canyon has what is probably the longest drop/waterfall in the San Gabriels. This can be divided up into one 150 and one 170ft rappel off a deadman partway down canyon right. Seeing as this is the longest rappel in the canyon by far, a 200ft rope and 200ft pullcord are suggested. There is a healthy amount of bushwhacking in the canyon, as well as several anchor challenges.

Cómo llegar

Note the fire road leading to the north of the canyon in the map. You'll want to park at the start of this road on R39 just north of a bridge. Hike this road to the bend along the north side of the canyon, and drop in. The canyon is short, but the bushwhacking and other challenges make up for it.

Descenso

Several short rappels on easy anchors lead to a section of hiking, bushwhacking, and downclimbing before reaching the dramatic top of the 300ft falls. Rapp from here to a ledge canyon right, and off that ledge for two 150ft+/- rappels. A short rappel follows, and another rappel with possible anchor challenges follows that. Some more hiking and bushwhacking follows before a dirty rappel chocked with dead trees. Hike out from here into Bichota Canyon, and back to R39.
