Spotsylvania Canyon

A descent, short canyon with a scenic hike.

Park in Cucomongo Canyon, on the northern border of Death Valley National Park. High clearance and good tires are recommended, but 4x4 is not needed. Hike north up a wash, with one bypass needed. Where the wash turns left, you climb up the ridge on left. Eventually you hit an old trail that was clearly constructed.

Downclimb R1 (20') from a cairn R2 (40 & 30 2-stage) anchored using fiddlestick around a large rock 40 feet back from edge Optional R3 (25 feet) from pinch point on right. Can be bypassed on left. R4 from a cairn, rappel is in a slot R5 (70 feet, two stage), minimal material for cairn. A sand trap would likely work well here. R6 (30 feet) from cairn. Drops down a slope. The road is within sight.
