Información

This is an excellent canyon dropping down from Glendora Mountain Road into the San Gabriel River south of the San Gabriel Dam. There are about 10 rappels depending on conditions, with several about 150ft+ in length. One is Big Kahuna Falls, which can be seen from Route 39. A steep drop on a granite wall, much like Death Valley but with better rock. More fun rappels and cool terrain lead to the last rapp, about 150ft down a very slimy slippery waterfall. From here, choose your exit wisely! See the Red Tape section for details!

Cómo llegar

Drive up Glendora Mountain Road to the Point Newman turnout, which is famous for automotive photography. It is the turnout/corner closest to the red pin in the map on here. Park here and access the canyon by hiking down into the little tributary canyon running roughly northeast from the turnout.

Descenso

The most memorable obstacle is the longest rappel down Big Kahuna Falls. There is a drop of 170ft or so (field-guess), with the closest tree anchor being about 30ft from the edge. A deadman may be a better option, as the pull can be difficult if one rapps off the slung Sycamore. A 'wind event' occurred before the 2nd descent, which knocked a ton of trees down in the canyon. Some sections are like an obstacle course.
