Wonderland of Rocks

This is an epic semi-technical hike through the heart of Joshua Tree National Park. Avoid in Summer due to scorching hot desert temperatures.

The approach follows an easy flat trail for several miles to Willow Hole. Alternatively, the trip can be a (considerably longer) loop route if a shuttle isn't possible. One such very long loop is mapped, the ascent of which involves some interesting boulder climbing. The trip can also be completed as a loop using the Boy Scout Trail, which adds considerable distance.

The descent involves major routefinding through a boulder maze called Wonderland of Rocks. The unnamed canyon above Rattlesnake Canyon includes several talus cave sections.
