A (aquatic) measures water difficulty, swimming and flow (scale 1-7, where A1 is calm water and A7 requires advanced swimming techniques). Roman numeral (I-VII) represents commitment level: time needed to exit the canyon in an emergency, I being low commitment and VII very high.
